Wellbeing

In July 2024, we were delighted to receive the National Wellbeing Gold Award, which acknowledges school communities that put wellbeing at the heart of learning, teaching and leadership.  Additionally, we have been identified as a ‘pioneer school', meaning our practice around wellbeing is an example to others.

Altrincham College's participation in the RAW programme (raising awareness with wellbeing) allowed us to consolidate, strengthen and extend the provision for wellbeing and improved mental health engagement throughout the school.

The RAW programme assessor acknowledged how Altrincham College already had a 'well-established ethos for caring and prioritising student and staff well-being and mental health' and that our commitment to strengthening this was evidenced in the investment in RAW.

Some of the outcomes from this programme, designed to place wellbeing and positive mental health at the heart of life at the school, include:

  • Appointing lead members of staff with explicit responsibilities for emotional wellbeing and mental health.
  • Investing in effective systems for alerting staff to well-being concerns.
  • Student well-being and positive mental health support initiatives (Zones of Regulation, weekly sessions for all KS3 students, enhanced RSHE curriculum provision).
  • SEND provision has been expanded to create a sensory area and therapy area and a two-weekly SEND Inclusion panel.
  • Parental engagement has been improved with regular workshops and communication to cultivate a strong sense of community.
  • A half-term coffee morning for parents has enhanced communication.
  • A bank of Parental Resources (home grown and covering challenges such as eating disorders, self-harm, substance abuse) has been set up (see links on this page).

"RAW has had a hugely positive impact on Altrincham College and the team will carry on with the work of the programme to support their ambition: to help the school create a culture and climate that enables every teacher and every student to thrive. I have been inspired by the dedication and passion of the staff team at the school and I would like to validate this submission for RAW Gold Award" - Marius Frank, Raising Attainment with Wellbeing  Course Director.
